Understanding Sequestration

More than four out of 10 Americans (43%) do not know what the term “sequestration” means, even though it has been one of the most talked about topics in the news and may impact many citizens, according to the YouGov Omnibus survey taken February 26 - 28, 2013.

When asked to what they thought it might mean one out of two Americans (51%) stated correctly that it was “a group of automatic, across-the-board spending cuts. Nearly one out of five (16%) believe sequestration “requires Congress to come to an agreement over negotiated budget cuts.” One in five (21%) said they were not sure.
