Overall Objective
This is an entry position, and you will be trained to acquire the skills needed for this role. You will develop an understanding of the business and research objectives and help to design solutions through knowledge of project and questionnaire design, sampling processes, weighting and production of deliverables. In this role you will assist in managing research projects through the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Design: understand the different sample designs.
- Questionaire Design: understand the advantages and disadvantages of different data collection methods and the principles of questionnaire design. You will be responsible for designing simple questionnaires, or discrete modules, and specify programmes under guidance. You will work with clients through iterations of a questionnaire to reach a final version.
- Survey implementation: develop and organise questionnaire development and testing scenarios, draft survey and briefing/debriefing documents, and contribute to the design and delivery of interviewer briefings under guidance.
- Data analysis: possess a good understanding of the use of percentages, means, standard errors, medians and confidence intervals. You will design, produce and interpret simple cross tabulation analysis and have a basic understanding of statistical testing, and how sampling and weighting issues affect analysis. You wil begin to have a basic understanding of some of the advanced statistical analysis techniques available
- Presentation and report writing: possess a good, clear writing style and understand different uses of tables, charts and commentary. In this role you will write, with guidance, report content and contribute to the drafting of presentations. A degree of user competence with MS PowerPoint attained through ‘on the job’ experience or specific training is expected.
- Proposal writing: write, or contribute to, client proposals.
- Subject knowledge: grasp the basic policy/subject knowledge required to carry out specific projects and begin to develop contextual knowledge about a specialist area, either in terms of research type or the sector.
- Project management: co-ordinate and manage different project tasks and set timetables.
- Client liaison: liaise, with guidance, effectively with clients and collaborators. You will be the main contact for day to day aspects of a project.
- Project costing and financial management: possess basic understanding of principles of costing. You will monitor days spent on allocated tasks and tasks allocated to research assistants, and discuss with more senior staff any possible discrepancies between budgeted and actual days spent (or likely to be spent) on a task.

Description
YouGov is seeking an ambitious, motivated, and entrepreneurial candidate to drive research & analysis for its data products. The products include YouGov's successful BrandIndex product as well as its new products CategoryView (an extension of BrandIndex), InvestorView (a survey product targeting institutional investors and advisors), and the Household Economic Activity Tracker (a macroeconomic survey data product).
The successful candidate will be focused on producing research based on YouGov's Data Products. The candidate will drive each stage of the research process -- developing research ideas, experimental design, analyze data (including use of sophisticated statistical methods), and translating results into client-ready output (e.g., presentations and white papers). The most successful of candidates will also take an active role in helping to build and improve the products themselves. In addition, excitement to build new products, including comfort with ambiguity and taking on new responsibilities, will be critical.
Necessary qualifications:
- Impeccable professional and personal integrity
- Graduate degree (MA, MS, or Ph.D.) in marketing, economics, psychology, social science, or similar discipline. Candidates with Bachelor's degrees and relevant experience will also be considered
- At least 2 to 3 years of research experience following degree
- A command of advanced marketing science techniques (i.e., conjoint; cluster analysis) with experience in survey methodology (e.g. experimental design; questionnaire development)
- Very strong written and oral communication skills

Survey Programmer / Data Analyst
Description
The candidate will join our Operations team as a Survey Programmer/Data Analyst. Surveys are programmed using an in-house scripting language based on Python. In addition to scripting, responsibilities include quality control, data processing, and monitoring.
Strong computational abilities are essential. Some prior experience programming (Python, Ruby, Perl, C/C++, Java) and scripting with statistical software and data management tools (R/S-Plus, SPSS, Stata, SAS, SQL, Excel) is strongly preferred. A successful candidate will be able to develop and suggest methods to improve survey implementation, enhance the survey-taking experience for our respondents, and streamline delivery of data products to our clients.
Candidates should have the following qualifications

- Experience with statistical packages and data management tools (especially R)
- Programming experience (Python, Ruby, Perl, C/C++, Java)

Linux System Administrator, Palo Alto, CA
Design, build, manage and maintain infrastructure servers, database servers across 2 data centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Will need to work closely with the system operation and development teams.
- Manage the performance and tuning of the Linux systems
- Help manage, design and implement database changes when required.
- Help manage the backups, DR and HA plans for all Linux infrastructure
- Troubleshooting and problem analysis when required.
- Assist with the deployment and implementation of system changes using puppet.
- Assist the development teams on the technical side with any questions or explanations they might need.
